EU TRANS-NATIONAL FUNDS

Think EUROPE – read the free ALERT e-newslettersubscribe here

This page is about the EU Trans-National Funds – there are other webpages for the following:

FUNDS / PROGRAMMES: STRUCTURAL FUNDS / INTERREG IV / THIRD COUNTRIES

OTHER INFO: EUROPE / EU / UK OFFICES IN BRUSSELS

The Trans-National funds support either projects involving partners from (usually) at least three different EU countries or exchanges or visits of individuals or groups between different EU countries.  Please note that the EU will only fund part of the costs of a project – between 50-80% depending on the programme – you and your partners will need to find the remaining funds from other sources.

In the following listing, clicking on the main heading for each programme will take you directly to the EC (European Commission) webpage with information on this programme.  Where there is a UK Contact Point for the programme, there will be a separate heading for this which will take you directly to the webpage for that Contact Point.

Please note that for the culture, education and youth programmes, there is now a separate agency (EACEA – Education & Culture Executive Agency) which manages these programmes.  In some cases therefore, you will be taken to an EACEA webpage rather than an EC webpage.

If you are in the UK, EUCLID runs regular CulturEuro seminars across the UK which explain these funding programmes, and which also cover the Structural Funds and third country programmes.

Deadlines for EC funding programmes are constantly changing and you can keep updated in a number of ways:
  • You can subscribe to EUCLID’s free  ALERT e-newsletter – visit the EUCLID website to register your name and email address
  • You can check on the Culture.Info deadlines webpage
  • For the trans-national funds, you can contact the relevant UK Contact Point for the latest information – most of them have free e-mail newsletters.

ERASMUS
This focus on higher education, and covers student exchanges and also student placement programmes.

The purpose of Erasmus is to improve the quality of higher education and strengthen its European dimension. It does this by encouraging transnational cooperation between universities, fostering the European mobility of students and teachers, and contributing to improved transparency and academic recognition of qualifications and studies throughout the European Union.   Higher education institutions apply for the Erasmus University Charter (EUC) to the European Commission. The awarding of an EUC gives the institution the right to participate in activities supported by the Erasmus programme. Once an institution receives a Charter, it can apply for funding for activities such as Student Mobility and Curriculum Development projects.   Check above website for more info.
